The Active School Flag is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community.
The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often. Rathbarry National School has been an active school for many years but this year we have formalised this commitment by becoming involved in the nationwide Active School Flag programme.

Throughout the year we are organising an active week, various lunchtime leagues, a skip around the world challenge and developing whole school active breaks. Our Active Flag Team have already created an active school flag slogan ‘Play, run and have fun’ while also working together to create a poster which is now on display throughout our school.

The children and teachers in our school have sampled many wonderful types of sports and activities over recent years including tennis, gymnastics, zumba, orienteering, taekwondo, swimming, walking, yoga, GAA and circuits! This year we hope to add soccer and frisbee to the ever growing list - watch this space!

Our Active flag is spearheaded by Ms. Hourihane & Ms. Harte and our wonderful pupil-led Active School Team who always have fantastic suggestions on how we can become more active in Rathbarry NS!
